Worship Team Interest Form

Covenant

The purpose of this covenant is to serve as an agreement between worship team members and leadership to uphold the mission and values of Christ Community Church (CCC) in both a personal manner and a manner that positively reflects the team and CCC. Our aim is to bring glory to God, in every area of life, inside and outside the church. We pray that you will joyfully agree and adhere to the following commitments for the glory of God and edification of the body of Christ as part of the worship team (vocal, instrumental and production/sound).

Section I-Spiritual Readiness
You must be a born again follower of Christ and member (at least 6 months) and faithful participant in the life of CCC, as demonstrated by:
Consistent attendance and involvement (regularly attending worship services along with involvement at special events or other similar activities when possible).
Demonstrate a supportive attitude for leadership, church programs, and the entire body of believers at CCC.
All team members must be a consistent part of a small group in order to join.
Spiritual Maturity: Worship team members serve a leadership function and with the help of the Holy Spirit assist in leading the congregation in musical worship of God. You are called to be a godly example concerning your life and behavior. For this reason, we will be very reluctant to allow new or immature Christians to be a part of the Worship Team.
Preparation for Service: Worship is a Lifestyle, therefore we want our worship to resonate as a lifestyle throughout the week. Worship is so much more than what happens on Sunday mornings, we want what happens during our Gatherings on Sunday to be an overflow of what we have experienced with Jesus. We are seeking “true worshippers,” as described in John 4:23-24. Our desire is for the Worship Team members to be true worshippers during rehearsals and services, as well as the rest of the week. This means carefully preparing your heart for worship through prayer and personal Bible study. Our spiritual preparation has a direct impact on our effectiveness as a team.  It cannot be emphasized enough that worship—not music—is our first priority.
Excellence in Service: Recognize that God is not looking for perfection, but excellence. We need to work on our music and technical abilities so that we are constantly improving and growing in our skill sets. Keep in mind that the team will only be as proficient as the individuals that comprise it. Therefore, you must be willing to listen to and practice the songs that are sent by the Worship Leader or Assistant.
Unity in Service: All members must have a cooperative spirit, always ready to encourage and support others on the team. We should build up one another and have the responsibility of eliminating any word or action that is not constructive to our team. Members are asked to have a teachable spirit, open to insight and feedback from others.
Humility in Service: Our prayer is that your highest aim is to publicly confess Jesus Christ as Lord. This is most effectively lived out in community with the body of believers at CCC. If at any time during your involvement in the worship ministry, should you feel that your personal or spiritual life is not reflecting what our ministry and church is about or what pleases God, we ask that you voluntarily step down and pull yourself from ministry so as to not disgrace the name of Jesus Christ or His church. We also encourage you to seek counsel with one of the Pastors or lay leaders in the pursuit of growth and accountability.
Questions & Concerns: If you have any issue concerning the Worship Team, the Worship Pastor is your first line of contact. If you contact one of the pastors/elders our first question will be, “have you spoken with the Worship Pastor.” This is the most Biblical approach to any concern.
Social Media: Understanding that in the culture we live in, social media is an important means of communication, team members agree to keep their posts on social media Christ honoring.

Section II-Practical Application
Musical or Technical Ability: As an instrumentalist, vocalist, or technician, there must be skill level commensurate with the area you are volunteering in. Your contribution to the team will be important. It is our desire that you will continue to consistently hone your strengths and grow in your weaknesses. Since this is a specialized ministry, our team needs to be able to lead effectively and efficiently.
Instrumentalists need to be able to:
Play well with othersLearn new material quickly
Demonstrate suitable ability on an instrument
Play from chord sheets
Vocalists need to be able to:
Sing well with others
Learn new material quickly
Demonstrate suitable range, blend-ability, and accurate pitch
Sing without sheet music (lyrics only)
Production Team members need to be able to:
Cooperate well with others
Learn new information quickly
Demonstrate suitable ability to manage and operate the production equipment
Practice: All members (vocalists, instrumentalists & production team) should be faithful and punctual in their attendance of rehearsals, services, and other events for which they are scheduled. If you are not able to make a rehearsal or service, please inform the Worship Pastor as soon as possible as well as select the “Decline” option in Planning Center, so a replacement can be found if necessary. Additionally, you should not participate in the Sunday service if you feel that you will be unprepared to lead in worship due to a missed rehearsal or other circumstances. If you miss a required rehearsal we welcome you to be a part of our worship service, however we respectfully ask that you not ask to play or sing that Sunday.
Remember, practice happens through the week; rehearsal is what happens when we all come together, therefore you must practice the songs sent in Planning Center throughout the week.
Dress Code: As mentioned previously, this is a leadership ministry and as leaders we have a responsibility and an obligation to set an example. Our dress can be informal, but it should not be messy. Dress should be modest, non-distracting, and presentable.
Ladies: conservative; dressy casual; no strapless or spaghetti strap tops; no skirts above the knee
Guys: check your fly; pants only on Sundays if you’re on stage (shorts can be worn at practices however)
No graphic t-shirts with messages or images that are distracting/attention grabbing
For both ladies and guys on stage, no hair cuts or colors that are extreme.
Modesty is the rule and if any questions exist, it is always best to err on the side of conservative as far as dress is concerned.
Planning Center Online: We use an online resource for service planning called Planning Center. You will be given an individual account for accessing the site using your own email address. You can access the site for PDFs of chord sheet music and audio files, videos, etc. This website makes planning, scheduling, and rehearsing much simpler. If you are on the worship team, you are expected to access the site throughout each week, even if you aren’t scheduled to sing or play that week. This allows you to still practice and learn the music. You need to accept or decline your availability by Wednesday evening, if at all possible, in order for us to secure a replacement if necessary.  It is also helpful for Worship Team members to “block out” dates that you prefer not to be scheduled or to let someone know in advance to prevent scheduling conflicts.
Sundays:
Instrumentalists: If there is a part for your instrument in the YouTube video linked in Planning Center, stay true to the arrangement. No winging it please. Come in when your instrument comes in, and play your parts as closely as possible. Make every effort to emulate the spirit in which the song is played. Instrument tones should be aligned as closely as possible to the Planning Center version of the song, not what you prefer. Instrument volume is controlled from the sound booth. Those who play instruments should never adjust the volume of their instruments from the stage unless requested by the sound team (mark them with tape if needed).
Vocalists/Singers: Singers should make every effort to be looking up, not down, with lyrics somewhat memorized, inviting the congregation to worship along with you.
Equipment: Musicians are required to bring their own instruments. Please be mindful not to bring instruments that are attention grabbing. You should only be playing the instrument you were assigned in Planning Center for that specific Sunday.  The church will provide in-ear monitors, etc. If you bring your own earphones, please make sure they are black and wires are black or clear and hidden behind you or underneath your shirt from the back side.
